Chocolate Swirl Pumpkin Bread

A delightful fusion of spices and rich dark chocolate.

This Chocolate Swirl Pumpkin bread is not just a treat for the taste buds - its fun, festive swirls make it a visual treat for parties or just a cozy night in. The soft texture with rich dark chocolate and seasonal spices will make it an instant favorite.


  • 1/2 bar (2oz) Theo Bittersweet Baking Bar
  • 15oz pumpkin puree
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 11/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ginger

Instructions (makes 1 loaf):

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Oil and lightly flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
  2. Combine pumpkin puree, egg, vegetable oil, water, and sugar and stir until well blended.
  3. In a separate bowl combine flour, baking soda, salt, and all spices.
  4. Add dry ingredient mixture to the pumpkin mixture stirring in half of dry ingredients at a time.
  5. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the Bittersweet Baking Chocolate using 15 second intervals. Do not burn the chocolate.
  6. Add 1/3 of the pumpkin bread batter into the bowl with chocolate and mix until well combined.
  7. Fill the loaf pan starting with the regular pumpkin batter and alternating with the chocolate back and forth, layering in concentric ovals in the pan.
  8. Use a small knife to swirl the top of the batter, reaching down about half of the depth of the pan.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick or knife come out clean.
  10. Allow loaf to cool before removing from pan. Slice and enjoy!
