A letter to the community from the employees of Theo Chocolate
On Wednesday, we promised to let our actions speak louder than our words. In keeping with this responsibility, our entire company created space yesterday to discuss racism and our initial statement, which we felt did not go far enough. We mobilized through open and honest conversations to take action against our own shortcomings.
It is important to state, unequivocally, that Theo stands with the Black community. We feel heartbreak for the senseless killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Manuel Ellis, and the countless others who came before them. Theo is against the police violence and systemic racism that makes such murders even possible. Black Lives Matter.
To rebuild our company culture, so that it is fundamentally anti-racist, and to urgently support the movement against racism, specific commitments are needed.
To begin change, we will start from the inside out. Starting Monday, June 8th:

- a diversity committee will be created to advise the company on diversity and inclusion with direct access to all levels of management, including the Board of Directors. This committee will be open to every Theo employee. One of the initiatives this committee is responsible for is to quickly identify how Theo will take action against racism and discrimination outside of the company.

- we will identify an outside expert to guide us as we develop an action plan that addresses systemic racism and bias at Theo. This includes an audit of Theo's hiring and promotion practices with full transparency of the results.
We will continue to share regular, transparent updates. This is the beginning of Theo's commitment to honesty with ourselves and our community about our progress against racism.

El miércoles, prometimos dejar que nuestras acciones hablaran más fuerte que nuestras palabras. De acuerdo con esta responsabilidad, el día de ayer, nuestra compañía creó un espacio para dialogar abiertamente sobre el racismo y nuestra declaración inicial, la cual sentimos que no abarcó lo suficiente. Nos movilizamos a través de conversaciones abiertas y honestas para tomar medidas contra nuestras propias deficiencias.
Es importante afirmar, inequívocamente, que Theo está con la comunidad de raza negra hombro con hombro. Nos duele el corazón por los asesinatos sin sentido de George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Manuel Ellis y las innumerables personas que les precedieron. Theo se declara en contra de la violencia policial y el racismo sistémico que hace que tales asesinatos sean posibles. Las vidas de las personas de raza negra sí importan.
Para reconstruir la cultura de nuestra empresa, de modo que sea fundamentalmente antirracista, y para apoyar urgentemente el movimiento contra el racismo, se necesitan compromisos específicos.
Este cambio que deseamos iniciar se hará de dentro hacia fuera y, por lo tanto, a partir del lunes 8 de junio,

- se creará un comité de diversidad para asesorar a la empresa sobre la diversidad y la inclusión con acceso directo a todos los niveles de gestión, incluida la Junta Directiva. Este comité estará abierto a todos los empleados de Theo.
